Adobe Enhance: The Best You You Can Be
We've all been there, haven't we? You've spent hours planning, shooting, and directing a fantastic video project or podcast episode. The visuals are perfect, the story is engaging, but there's one tiny problem - the audio is a complete mess. Maybe you recorded in a noisy environment, or perhaps your microphone decided to go rogue. But fear not, creators! Adobe Enhance is here to save the day and make your audio sound like it was captured in a professional recording studio… most of the time.
I have been playing around with AI a lot lately, so let's dive into this magical tool that can transform your audio from a cacophony of noise to crystal-clear perfection. Enhance is not only incredibly easy to use, but it's also free with an Adobe account. Yes, you read that right: free! And, believe it or not, you can even use it entirely on your cell phone if you're on the go or don't have access to your usual editing setup.
The Wonders of Noise Removal and Audio Improvement
The main attraction of Adobe Enhance is its ability to remove background noise and improve overall audio quality. With just a few clicks, you can take audio recorded in the noisiest of environments and make it sound like it was captured in a pristine recording booth. Imagine the possibilities! Your students' projects will never be the same, and neither will your podcasts or other audio-heavy content.
I recently had a student come to me and ask about using our podcasting room to capture a voiceover for his news package. The room was being used by someone else and he was up against a deadline, so I just told him to grab his phone, head to the equipment closet, and record in there. He said that he couldn’t do that because he didn’t have his script, which was on his computer. I told him to just sit at his desk and record there.
I thought about asking the room to be quiet while he recorded, but I kind of wanted to test Enhance. He used his phone, with all the noise of a typical video production classroom happening all around him, and then he sent the file to his computer to put it through Enhance. We were amazed. I will say, Enhance had to work so hard that the audio didn’t sound quite like him, but it was better than what it would have sounded like without the AI processing.
A Mostly Seamless Integration with Adobe Premiere
If you are working on an audio-based project, such as a podcast, then Enhance will solve a lot of your problems for you. It isn’t quite that simple with Premiere though. To work around this, I had to export my audio from a clip as an .MP3 file before uploading into Enhance because it will only accept .MP3 or .WAV files. After it worked its magic, I downloaded the file, reimported it to Premiere, then synced it up with the existing audio. I walk through this process in the video below.
Despite the extra work, the effort was worth it. Based on the outcome of Enhance in this video, I would say that we have found a game-changer! I will no longer accept subpar audio from my students. There is just no reason for it not to sound incredible.
I recently posted about how YouTube is now providing podcasts. You should consider working through Adobe Enhance to craft your stories in a way that will work in audio format. If you’d like to read my short article, check it out by clicking here.

I am sure some of you are hesitant to jump on the AI train. I very much understand that reticence, but I think we are doing our students a disservice to not teach them how to use the resources available. Remember, the key to engaging and effective media content is not just about the visuals, but also the audio.
