It’s almost over!! The school year is coming to a close soon! You can do it!
April can feel like the doldrums because you are so far from the beginning of the year yet it feels like you are still a long way away from the end… Keep Your Head Up. You can do it.

Start getting ready for graduation.
April is Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month and Parkinson’s Awareness Disease Month.
Use the idea below to keep your kids fresh and keep your sanity.

4/1/2025 | April Fools Day…. | Truthfully, the best April Fool’s Day joke you can play is to not play an April Fool’s Day Joke. The set up is simple. Use your socials to tease the show and the joke. Tease the joke throughout the show. Then in your last element of the show, set up the joke, then have your host throw it to the joke…. Go to black then end the video. This is a simple joke to pull off. You could even seed it a little with some of your kids. Make sure that your students all get it. Maybe have them tease it for a bit. Really try to sell it - but not too much. Then just do it. I guarantee this joke won’t get you called to a meeting… | ||
4/2/25 | National Autism Awareness Day | Work with your special populations department to talk about Autism. | ||
National Peanut Butter And Jelly Day | This may be a good time to do the three monkeys challenge. Have three students in the shot. Their goal is to make a PB&J.. the catch - one is blindfolded, one can’t talk, and one can’t hear (put headphones on them). The only student who can touch the ingredients is the blindfolded person. | |||
National DIY Day | Have teachers discuss their worst experience doing DIY. | |||
4/3/2025 | National Burrito Day | Create the World’s Largest Burrito… It’s simple. Cover a table with a table cover. Layer tortillas at about ½ coverage, add ingredients and roll it up. You may be able to work with a local sponsor to help. They may have experience making larger burritos. | ||
World Party Day | Make your show a party. Theme it out. Refer to the anchors as “hosts,” hang pennants, have popcorn, break all of the traditional news rules… Make your show a party. | |||
4/4/2025 | National School Librarian Day | Celebrate those men and women who work in your library. Have them on a a guest host. Interview them. Interview people about them. | ||
Hug A Newsman Day | This could be a fun man on the street bit if you have the right kid. Have them go through the school asking for hugs. | |||
4/5/2025 | National Pillow Fight Day | It’s a saturday so you can’t do it live but you can talk about it as though it did. You can tease it on Friday with a simple. We hope to see you at the pillow fight tomorrow. Then on Monday have your anchors talk about it like it happened. | ||
4/6/2025 | National Student-Athlete Day | This is a slam dunk… Interview student-athletes (specifically seniors) about their experiences as a student athlete. (The 6th is a Sunday so you could do this on Friday or Monday. ) | ||
4/7/2025 | Community Garden Week | Does your community have a garden? Find out. Find out who’s in charge of it. Find out who gardens there. | ||
4/9/2025 | National POW Day | Work with your local VFW to find a local former POW to interview and share their story with your students. | ||
National Name Yourself Day | Man On The Street “If you could change your name to anything, what would it be?” | |||
4/10/2025 | National Sibling’s Day | Share surprise siblings. Research famous people who have famous or interesting siblings. Man On The Street: What’s the best thing about your sibling? | ||
4/11/2025 | National Pet Day | Work with the local humane society or animal control agency to try to raise awareness of pets that need adoption and other agency needs. Man On The Street: What’s your pet’s full name? | ||
National Submarine Day | Talk with a Navy ROTC or Recruiter about life on a submarine. | |||
4/12/2025 | National Grilled Cheese Day | This is a Saturday so you would probably want to do it on a Friday. A segment about the best grilled cheese technique. You could do the three monkeys segment with students making the grilled cheese (DON’T LET THEM GET BURNED…. - maybe the silent student is the only one that can touch the hot stuff) | ||
4/13/2025 | International Plant Appreciation Day | (Do this on Monday… look at the 14th to know why…) Work with members of your FFA to discuss their favorite plants. Man On The Street: What’s Your Favorite Plant? (This is a dangerous one…. But possible) | ||
4/14/2025 | National Gardening Day | Maybe make your whole show about plants, the FFA, Farming, etc… | ||
National Dolphin Day | Celebrate our bottle nosed friends with a story about dolphins, etc Man On The Street: Can you name a famous Dolphin? | |||
4/15/2025 | National Tax Day | Work with a local tax preparer to discuss what needs to be done to pay taxes. Talk with your local tax commissioner to discuss the different types of taxes that people have to pay and what that money goes to. | ||
Jackie Robinson Day | Celebrate breaking barriers. ALL MLB players will be wearing the number 15 on this day (Sports story) Have someone from your history program talk about the Jackie Robinson story. Work with your local NAACP to discuss the Jackie Robinson Era in the world and how big Jackie Robinson was at that time. | |||
4/16/2025 | National Pajama Day | It’s Pajama Day on your show. Do your own secret spirit day… Everyone is in PJs on the show. | ||
Emancipation Day | The perfect follow up to Jackie Robinson Day. Work with the history department to discuss emancipation day. | |||
Selena Day | Celebrate this Tejano star. Discuss her impact on the music industry and culture. Also a fun fact: who declared Selena day? | |||
4/17/2025 | National High 5 Day | Man on the Street: Make it a competition between two students to see who can get the most high fives! | ||
Blah Blah Blah day | The purpose of the day is to listen to your loved ones and friend’s wishes and start to act on them. Man On The Street: Walk up to random people and say “Ask me to do something.” (nothing else) Then do what they ask… within reason. | |||
4/18/2025 | National Haiku Poetry Day | Find some of the most random Haiku Poems and have the students read them on the air as transitions between elements. | ||
Lineman Appreciation Day | Celebrate those who keep the lights on. Set up an interview with a lineman to discuss their job. Also could be used by the local EMC as a recruitment tool. (IF you want to make a lighter segment or piece of the segment …. Find your quarterback and have them talk about how much they appreciate linemen…) | |||
4/21/2025 | International Creativity and Innovation Day | HELLO STEAM/STEM programs…discuss steam/stem activities at your school. Interview students. Showcase projects, etc | ||
Spanish American War Day | April 21 was the first day of the Spanish American War. Talk with a history teacher or student to have them discuss the war and its impact on the country. | |||

World Day Of Safety and Health at Work Day | Work with your CTE department to discuss different safety protocols in their pathway. | |||

Meet the Author, Tom White
Tom White is the Education and House of Worship Specialist at Amitrace. Tom's role is to help educators build better programs through better training, planning, and equipment. Before joining Amitrace, Tom was the Broadcast Engineer at Grady College of Journalism and Communication at the University of Georgia. Prior to that role, Tom taught at Morgan County High School and Rockdale Career Academy where he and his student produced thousands of live streams for sports, news, and community events. Tom’s program at the Rockdale Career Academy received the NFHS Network Program Of The Year in 2016 and his program at Morgan County High School received the New Program of the Year title in 2018. Tom has been a long time contributor to many publications and is the host of Teaching to The Test Pattern Podcast.
