May Content Ideas

You have made it (if you are in the south…) It’s the last month of school. Things are wide open with students trying to get their grades to respectable levels, parents pressuring you to make it happen, and Admin running around trying to get everything done before your last day of work!
May is rich with content possibilities. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5th - 9th. There are several things you can do to build your program's reputation with teachers. From “Teacher Features” to having teachers work as your talent on the show, it’s time to get creative (national creativity day is May 30th). Have fun with teachers this month. They need some stress relief too.
May seems to be the month of monthly celebrations. This is just a sampling:
Miniature Garden Month
Jewish American Heritage Month
Better Speech and Language Month
ALS Awareness Month
Skin Cancer Awareness Month (Redhead day - May 26 / Sunscreen Awareness Day - May 27)

Military Awareness Monday (Military Spouses Day - May 9)
Food Awarenesses
Mediterranean Diet

National BBQ Month
It’s April and if you haven’t started planning for covering graduation and the related events, you are already behind the 8 ball. It’s time to get started…
Date | Topic | Ideas | ||
5/1/25 | World Password Day | Work with your computer science program to discuss the need for strong passwords. Or work with local law enforcement to discuss cyber threats and the need for protecting online assets.
School Principal’s Day | Do features on your school’s admin team. If you are at a large school, this may be tough but you can make small pieces to use as transitions between elements.
5/2/2025 | No Pants Day | This could be a fun show where you tease that no one is wearing pants… but they are all wearing shorts. The immediate image that comes to mind for me are the old Sportscenter commercials where they do a “behind the scenes” look at the show. They have their hosts discuss different things that fans may not know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puleXDhW34s
Astronomy Day | Work with your science department to create packages about current events in Astronomy or do a package about the program and some of their star/planet watching events. If there is a planetarium near, do a feature about it.
5/3/2025 | Free Comic Book Day | Set this up on Friday - Encourage students to go to a local comic book store and pick up their free comic (local tie in) Find a teacher or student who is into comic books and do a package about them.
5/4/25 | Star Wars Day | This may be a fun social media element. Have students/staff do quick hits about Star Wars. Make sure they close each with “May The Fourth Be With You.”
World Laughter Day | Not into Star Wars - Use your socials to tell jokes as a part of World Laughter Day.
5/5/25 | Cinco De Mayo | Disspell the myths about Cinco De Mayo - Work with your foreign language department to discuss Cinco De Mayo. The day is much more than Nachos and sombreros… Your history department would also be a great asset for this.
5/6/25 | National Teacher’s Day | Build some love in your school. Do a man on the street where students and teachers are asked about their favorite teacher. You may also work with a teacher training/early childhood education to discuss what it takes to become a teacher.
National Tourist Day | Work with your local convention and visitors board to discuss tourism in your area and it’s impact. If your community has an E-splost or something along those lines where there are additional funds raised by gas or other sales, you can discuss the impact of tourism on the school system.
5/8/25 | World Red Cross Day | Work with the local Red Cross Chapter to discuss what they do and how people can help.
National Have A Coke Day | There are a couple of ways to approach this…. You could buy some cokes and do a man on the street to ask students Coca-Cola trivia and if they get the answer right - they get to “have a coke.” If you are able, you could buy a Coke for all of the teachers (it is teacher appreciation week) and record some of the Coke deliveries.
5/9/25 | Military Spouse Appreciation Day | Create a package about military spouses and their life.
National Lost Sock Memorial Day | This could be a fun bit. Have students create a memorial service for the socks that have been lost.
5/11/25 | Mother’s Day | Man On The Street on Friday to ask students to share what they love most about their mother.
5/12/25 | National Limerick Day | Work with your ELA department to discuss what a Limerick is and have some of your students create Limericks to read on the air.
International Nurses Day | Celebrate those who keep us healthy. Work with your healthcare program to discuss what it takes to become a nurse. Interview nurses about a day in their life.
5/13/25 | National Apple Pie Day | Work with your culinary department to have an Apple Pie Cookoff. Do a segment where your admin team judge the pies.
5/14/25 | Jamestown Colony Foundation Day | In 1607 the first permanent settlement in America is founded. Talk with your history department about the Jamestown settlement.
National Dance Like A Chicken Day | Man On The Street: Ask students and staff to dance like a chicken. (could be great on the show and social media)
5/15/25 | Peace Officers Memorial Day | Work with local law enforcement to create a package about Peace Officers Memorial Day. The day is to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty.
5/16/25 | National Pizza Party Day | Channel your inner Ninja Turtle… Celebrate all things pizza (great local partner tie in!)
5/20/25 | National Rescue Dog Day | Work with a local ASPCA or animal shelter to feature dogs that are available for adoption. Ask staff if they have rescued a dog and tell that story.
National Be A Millionaire Day | Man On The Street: If I gave you a million dollars right now, what would be the first thing you would do?
World Bee Day | Find a local Beekeeper and do a feature on them.
5/21/2025 | National Waitstaff Day | Ask students that work as waiters what it is like to be a waiter. Ask staff members if they were ever waiters and get them to tell their wildest stories.
National Talk Like Yoda Day | Segments of students talking like Yoda will you do…
5/22/25 | National Maritime Day | Celebrate all things ocean trade and industry.
5/23/25 | World Turtle Day | Our half shelled friends are always a lot of fun to showcase. Work with a local zoo or herpetologist to discuss turtles, etc.
5/26/25 | National Paper Airplane Day | Do a segment where teachers and students are asked to make a paper airplane and seeing who’s creation will fly the farthest.
World Redhead Day | Celebrate your favorite redheads. Redheads are genetic anomalies - maybe work with your science department to create a feature about redheads and how rare they are.
5/27/25 | National Sunscreen Day | A fitting follow up to Redhead day. Create a feature to detail the need for sunscreen to prevent skin cancer. Work with local medical professionals to discuss the need for sunscreen and it’s different elements.
5/28/25 | National Burger Day | HELLO HAMBURGER TASTE OFF!!! You could focus on local establishments, fast food, or have teachers and students cook burgers. As a part of the package, you can include information about the history of burgers.
National Brisket Day | This is a taste off with a much higher commitment level! There are several ways to attack this - your culinary program may have the ability to smoke a brisket and talk about it. You could find a local bbq restaurant that cooks brisket and do a package on the process. Also BBQ competitions are huge. There may be a local team that you can do a feature about their competitions.
5/29/25 | Learn About Composting Day | Work with your Agriculture department to do a feature on composting.
5/30/25 | National Creativity Day | Showcase your fine arts programs! Do packages about your art classes, band performances, and dance troupe. Get creative.
World Multiple Sclerosis Day | Raise awareness about MS. There are usually charity road races to raise funds for MS research - do a package about the race. Work with a local medical professional to inform your viewers about MS. |

March is no man’s land in the school year. You are past the excitement of Christmas, not quite to Spring Break, and certainly no where near summer.
This month, there are a ton of great things to celebrate, cereal, tamales, Oreos, and more…. they aren’t all food but there is a lot this month.
Check out the list of ideas to create content every day in March.
February is the birth month of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass which played a large part in Carter G. Woodson’s creation of Black History Week and later Black History Month in 1926. Carter is called the “Father of Black History Month” and helped found the Association for the Study Of African American Life and History.
Black History Month is not only an American institution, it is also celebrated in Canada and the United Kingdom - though the UK celebrates in October.
Below you will find 28 ideas aligned to dates to help you and your students get a plan together for how to incorporate Black History Month into your program. I highly suggest that you bring in other people, programs, and community organizations to help your students tell these amazing stories.
February is the shortest month of the year and for most teachers it feels like the longest month of the school year. Other than President’s day, there seems to be no break in the month. The students have started to get comfortable with the class and their true selves - good or bad - are starting to show.
Use these ideas to help ease your workload - especially if you pair these with our Black History Month ideas, your content calendar should be full and you get to move from creating ideas to coaching your students.
