YouTube Podcasts: Making It Easier to Showcase Student Work

If you are like me, you want way less to keep up with. I mean, I have enough already to manage. That’s why I was excited to see that YouTube is now offering Podcasts.

I have been wanting to jump on the podcast wagon with my students and this might be a great way to do that. How could the timing be any better? We are already using YouTube for our daily livestream, additional longform content, #shorts, community posts (meh), and now… podcasts. YouTube is becoming a one-stop shop for educators who exist in the creator space because it’s one login to rule them all!

With the recent improvements in AI, specifically Adobe Podcast and the Enhance tool, which I mentioned in my previous post on Embracing AI in the Classroom, there is no reason why we cannot be teaching our students how to produce professional quality audio productions.

I don’t know if I just missed this or not, but I only noticed the Podcasts option under the YouTube Studio Dashboard this week. I was so excited, I had to make a #short.

To me, this is some pretty exciting news. YouTube has always been a hub for creators to share their content, and now they're expanding that to include podcasts. This means that podcasters can reach an even wider audience, and listeners have one more platform to discover new shows and our student-produced content.

Of course, this wouldn't be a new release without some hiccups. Some podcasters are reporting issues with their RSS feeds not working properly, and there have been complaints about the lack of analytics for podcasters. But overall, it seems like YouTube Podcasts is off to a promising start.

So if you're a podcast listener, be sure to check out YouTube Podcasts and see if your favorite shows are available. And if you're a podcaster, it might be worth considering adding YouTube to your distribution strategy. Who knows, you might just gain a whole new audience.
