ATTACKING THE IB Film COMPARATIVE ESSAY

I like to provide kids with a structure for their comparative videos for the IB film assessment. Kids can choose to use it or not, but I find that it helps make the assessment more tangible and less overwhelming to students than telling them to go out and make a 10 minute video essay.

You’ll find two tables here: one outlines the overall structure with notes for each section, and the other table is for students to use as they write the script for their own essay.

The structure below does apply to the overall 10 minute structure of the assessment; however, the notes within each section refer to the crafting of the audio (the writing) and not the video (visual) component.

Please refer to the IB Film Guide (2023 first assessment) for clarification and requirements.

Feel free to use this and/or adapt it for your students’ needs.
