When student journalists lose the “student” predecessor, you want them to be as prepared as possible to take on the professional world of journalism. Ross Inception News Academic newsroom editorial system offers a scalable broadcast production system to schools that’s right on par with what professional broadcast crews use. Ross Video created an educationally-priced version of their pro system to give students the training they need for a seamless transition.

Ross Inception News Academic is the educationally priced version of Ross Video’s browser-based Ross Inception News newsroom editorial system and multi-platform content creation engine. Inception supports story-centric, idea-centric and paperless workflows to help schools meet their video and digital production requirements and instructional needs. Inception also provides the structure and organizational workflow to help students work collaboratively and efficiently to frequently plan and produce live or “as-live” shows on a deadline.

At schools, Ross Inception News Academic is typically used to help individual students and student teams collaboratively plan and produce multi-camera newscasts, morning announcement programs and other partially scripted production format shows featuring sports, entertainment, and other cool content. Inception also enables students to author, approve, and publish related content within a permissions-based workflow to social media and other digital platforms during their scripted shows or as a stand-alone social media only management tool.

iPad integration powers all Inception paperless workflows for on-camera presenters and other production crew positions. Inception’s core features set also allows students and student teams to curate social media and web content for organized presentation for editorial use and display via graphics solutions like Ross XPression. Inception can also be used to plan and produce content for a variety of live event productions.

Inception News Academic utilizes industry-standard connectivity protocols to interface directly with related video production devices including teleprompters, graphics systems, video servers and more. Ross bundles a compliant teleprompter software application (CueScript CueiT available for either Windows PCs or Macs) & a USB connected controller with each Inception News Academic Version system purchased. Ross Inception News Academic also integrates with other existing MOS compliant teleprompter software applications.

Ross offers an intuitive, industry-standard motion graphics/character generator solution named XPression with an educationally priced software suite option available to enable graphics integration with Inception News Academic.

Ross also offers an intuitive, industry-standard video server solution named Tria with an educationally priced software suite option (Streamline) available to enable video server integration with Inception News Academic.

School districts have the option to purchase their own “on-premise” /  “locally-hosted” software license for Inception. This purchased Inception News Academic software license may either be hosted on a physical Ross Inception News file server purchased together with the Inception News Academic software license or the school district may elect to host the Inception News Academic software license application themselves on an existing school district owned file server (virtual or physical) that meets  Inception News Academic system specifications.

School districts also have the ability to acquire Inception News Academic as subscription-based, cloud-hosted Software as a Service (Saas) application. This version is named Inception Cloud Academic. Better yet, there’s a 30-day trial version.

Inception News Academic is widely used in universities and colleges throughout the United States, which is all the more reason to start training high school students on the system now.

One school that didn’t hesitate to jump on board was Northwest High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Their student-run TV channel, NHSTV, has been named the top live daily show in the U.S. Southwest by the Student Television Network four years in a row.

NHS started with Inception News Academic and went on to acquire a full workflow of Ross Solutions for their control room. The station even appeared in a local news story coining it one of the nation’s best high school productions.

Each Ross Inception News Academic version system includes Inception Commissioning (installation) service and an Operational Training Session service for teachers and students. Online and on-site options are available for these Inception services.
