Esports in Education

New Esports in Education book shows how student broadcasters are finding careers in esports!

Esports is an interesting new sport where students are competing at the high school and college levels nationally. At the high school level, esports players are not only competing to win tournaments but also to gain scholarships to prestigious universities like University of Utah, University of California-Irvine, Robert Morris University, and many more. Just like traditional sports such as football, student broadcast clubs are starting to help esports teams broadcast their tournaments online.

A new book this year, Esports in Education, reviews some of the awesome new careers available for students interested in broadcasting esports tournaments. You may have noticed that schools have an exciting new esports club and, if really lucky, the school has even started a varsity level esports team. As esports becomes an important part of school athletics, student’s interested in media and technology can join their school broadcast clubs to help live-stream esports tournaments. Esports in Education reviews the new careers that are opening up for students interested in the esports and competitive video gaming industry.

The book also outlines the StreamGeeks Summit, where a completely student-run broadcast team helped live-stream the on-site esports tournament hosted at the Dream Downtown Hotel in Manhattan. The S.A.R. High School in NYC helped to operate the PTZOptics cameras, run the video production software, and organize the Wirecast video production software that live streamed to Twitch. Students from Hofstra University also helped fill valuable career roles in on-screen talent and play-by-play announcing (called a Shoutcaster in esports). The video game industry is expected to grow from $140 billion to over $300 billion in the next five years, already outgrowing the music and film industries over the past decade and creating many new jobs in video games and esports. Reading Esports in Education will help students and educators better understand how schools can help prepare students for jobs in this exciting field.

Esports in Education is now available to download for free at https://ptzoptics.com/esports, where readers can learn the importance of esports in education. Author Paul Richards has also published a free online UDEMY course to help students understand the non-gaming career paths for students interested in helping support esports programs at their schools.
